An idea brought about by my stay at the GTU and my love affair with Jewish Mysticism . If the Chokhmah (Wisdom) in the Zohar is the seed brought forth into the world by Ein Sof (The Infinite) as the first "thingness", and Chokhmah is associated with "femaleness" especially in the Torah, and Chokhmah is associated with "maleness" in its partnership with Binah (Understanding) as the "Higher Mother". What if the Chokhmah of Biblical literature and Chokhmah of the Zohar are one in the same with a multiple gendered structure? Time to get a study group together and explore this idea over dinner and drinks like a proper rav... Please share if you like the ideas expressed!
Ze’enah u-Re’enah (Hebrew צאנה וראינה), Yiddish pronunciation: tsenerene. A rendering in Yiddish of the Pentateuch, the Megillot (Five Scrolls of the Bible) and the Haftarot (portions from Prophets read in synagogue after the Sabbath reading from the Torah)
Sitting in my hands this afternoon in my class was this amazingly sad little book with a huge history and I still have some pieces on my desk.
My paper proposal was accepted and I got some great comments from Naomi Seidman, my prof. I am very excited abut doing this very interested bisexual reading of the David arc. Looking at David's sexuality in a more fluid sense, without reading the modern "love" into his dalliances.
I am looking at translations by Rabbi Steven Greenberg and others to find the different ways of interpreting the TaNaKh in translation.
TAGIN (Aram. תָּגִין; sing., tag), special designs resembling crowns placed by a scribe on the upper left-hand corner of seven of the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet in a Torah, tefillin, or mezuzah scroll. They were supposedly put their by G!d so that future generations could hang their own interpretations of Torah and laws on them.
